dinner time

Maddy started back to school last week so that means supper busy evenings again. She is a football manger so that means after school practice. When you add in church bible study, praise band practice, meetings, and Sunday night credo, it makes for a very busy mom. So I decided to do a marathon Sat and prep all my meals for the week. We found a great deal on hamburger so we'd bought 20 lbs of it. I divided some up to freeze then used some for our meals for the week.
I made meatballs, beef enchilada mix, taco mix, and meat loaf. I also cooked rice and froze it for easy side dishes too.

Here's is what my freezer currently looks like. I had my hubby put the meatloaf in while we were still at church. It was nice coming home to a hot, homemade meal that was not one of those frozen entrees full of sodium and preservatives.

dog days of summer

Been staying busy. Here I am debating if I should eat this cupcake. Of course I did.but I have been on weight watchers and lost 15 pounds. I have learned food is a balancing act. You need it to even out. Big lunch light dinner add in exercise and you have an equal equation. And it really works!

I have been taking some awesome pics with my camera phone. I have a nexus 4. I love, love, love it!

This adorable little guy stole our hearts. Even though we weren't looking to adopt but now that he had been with us a couple of days and a potential home did not work out we are keeping him.

I put on my normal jean shorts and they just fell off me. I tried on my size 8 and they fit. Yeah!

This is what I brought to a 4th of July party we went to.

My sweet baby boy.

busy life

Despite being sick for most of this month I have stayed busy.

I discovered snapseed. A super easy photo editing app. You can make anything look gorgeous with it.

Send my youngest off on a mission trip with our youth group from church.

Tried to get a picture of the supermoon but was impeded by haze. Still got a neat shot after all.

Had more fun with snapseed.

Got some great shots of sun rises. Yes to those of you who do not get up for work at 4:30am --they happen everyday and are glorious.

Had a great time with my nephews. We went to Pops. A place off old route 66 that sells over 200 types of soda.

We also had a Star Wars marathon.

Got to ride a Seagway

Celebrated my 5 year anniversary at Cattleman's.

My hubby had never been. See that smile. Now he understands what a great steak tastes like.

And I kitten sat for my daughter.

sick

I hate being sick. I am not a good patient. I caught an upper respiratory infection back on the 4th.

Many medications later I am doing a bit better.

But I still have an awful cough.

So back to the Dr I go.

Kittens!

My older daughter took in a cat from a friend who was moving and was no longer able to keep her. Little did she know, she was expecting. She has a litter of kittens. Six all told.

They are soon going to their new homes so we went over and played with them for several hours.

I love, love, LOVE kittens. I love their excitement. The sideways run they have.
The wobbly way they try to pounce.

They crack me up when they attack each other. Until one mews for mercy.

How can you not love that adorable little face?

Emergency plan fail

I really thought I was prepared for a weather emergency. Living in Oklahoma, this is just a fact of life. I have reviewed, tweaked and relayed the plans with my children so much they know it by heart. The one thing I did not take into consideration is what I would do when I was alone away from home. The May 20th tornado revealed this to me.

I took shelter in the basement of the main building where I work. The public always seeks shelter there as well. There were so many people crowded down there. Everyone was huddled against the walls. You could just feel the fear coming radiating on waves off people. It smelled of sweat. I had my tablet with me so I turned it on to start streaming the local broadcast live. Thank goodness there was WiFi down there. You could not get a cell signal.
When I turned it on the people around me a surged closer to get a look as well. The news broadcaster was saying that it was at SW 15th and Santa Fe. A women started to wail. Fear clutched me. That would place it close to us. I briefly had visions of the hallway collapsing with all these people around us. I could understand how little it would take to start a riot in a mob. I said a prayer right then and there. The broadcaster went onto say it was SW 15 in Moore and still headed east. That would place it away from us and meant we were safe. Let me tell you. I have never felt such relief. I don't know what I would have done if it had hit us. I realized then I need to have a better plan in place.

You will not be able to talk on your cell phone. The lines get jammed with everyone else trying to call loved ones. Make sure family knows where you are seeking shelter before it strikes. THEN as soon as it's safe try to give everyone an update. You won't be able to call but most people have Facebook on their phones. Just a simple I'm safe post will help put everyone at ease. We did not know about a family friend until 2 days after the disaster. Thank god they were OK but their car was destroyed by the tornado.
Have a secondary plan. If something had happened to me I don't have anything in place for my children that did not include me in it. It NEVER occurred to me that I might be the one in danger's path.
I pray for all those who have lost loved ones, homes and their livelihoods in the tornado. It was an awful event but a learning experience for me.

Kitties

I don't think I have ever seen anything do cute in my life. This is my daughter's hairless cat and the kittens.
